Mr. Dan's Classroom

Here is a selection of highlights from a variety of units with my classes

"Symmetrical Sound"

A grade 3 student is presenting his original digital composition "Symmetrical Sound" to his classmates. We were using Chrome Music Lab to create rhythmic and melodic patterns, and this boy made a great connection to his math unit on symmetry.

Unit of Inquiry - Grade 3

Exploring the central idea that exploring, creating and responding to art develops an understanding of ourselves and the world around us. On white boards, students shared the different ways they explore, create and respond to music.

Materials Unit - Opening the Piano

During a grade 2 unit on materials, we opened up an upright piano to see how it works. We discussed how each of the 88 keys is connected to a small hammer that hits a string, ultimately producing that recognizable piano sound. Students were so excited and we had a few of them perform for us while their classmates watched the hammers moving.
